A Few Words from Our Principal,
Margarita Palacios
February 2012
We can't believe the end of the second trimester is coming our way! Students will be busy learning and demonstrating their skills by writing essays and completing a reading and a math evaluation. These summative evaluations are very important because they measure what students have learned and how many standards they have mastered. We want the children to take assessment seriously and do their best. If we are saying that the expectation is to behave at level D at all times, it is a very important for our students to understand that they need to share with us their knowledge by taking assessments seriously and working very hard to reach our goal of having students score 80% or higher on every test we give them.
We do not want them to feel stressed, buy they will learn that anywhere they go they will have to perform on demand and that if they get ready and study, there is nothing they should fear. Assessments become an integral part of the learning process.

The students and staff collected over 1,860 items in our Winter Food Drive for the Monterey County Food Bank. The winners of the food drive contest were the kindergarten group who donated a whopping 422 items!
The Salinas Californian did a very nice write up about the food drive.
Even closer to our hearts was the amazing amount raised in the Bacon Family Coin Drive: $1190.90 in coins and $940 cash/checks, for a grand total of $2130.90!
The kindness and generosity of the Prunedale School Family is astonishing- a big thank you to all who helped and donated. Wishing everyone a 2012 full of good health and happiness!
